Cable Park Wakeboard FAQs
1. What is cable wakeboarding?
Cable wakeboarding is a type of wakeboarding experience in which the wakeboarder's rope and handle are pulled by an overhead electric cable system rather than a boat. You might think of a system similar to ziplines, but over the water. Similar to a ziplining park, a cable park wakeboard facility will feature a network of multiple cables and pulleys that will propel wakeboarders across their designated courses. Cable parks usually have a 6 tower system, a two tower system, or both. Many of these cable park wakeboard facilities will also feature challenging obstacles like ramps, kickers, and sliders that enable the rider to perform wakeboard tricks and specialty maneuvers as they are propelled through the course.
2. What is the difference between a cable wakeboard and a boat wakeboard?
The primary distinction between cable wakeboarding and boat wakeboarding lies in the method of propulsion. While both disciplines utilize a wakeboard as the means for gliding across the water, the similarities largely end there.
Cable wakeboards, while shaped similarly to boat wakeboards, are built with larger sizes and base materials (grind base) that are best able to withstand heavy repeated use in cable parks and the obstacles found within. They feature a softer flex and a more significant rocker profile that gives the rider more control and maneuverability as they go through the courses.
In contrast, a standard wakeboard board for use behind a boat is designed to have less flex with a sifter construction and much more emphasis on deeper, angled fins that allow for stability, speed, and control when jumping wakes and carving behind the boat.
3. What size wakeboard should I ride?
Cable wakeboarding continues to evolve as time goes on. As such, there continues to be some debate on ideal shape and length. Over the last couple of years, more experienced cable wakeboarders and cable wakeboard companies are preferring longer boards, including cable boards that are more than 155 centimeters in length. The idea behind this change is that longer boards feature more surface area that the wakeboarder can play around with while on the water, hitting kickers, rails and executing certain maneuvers.
That said, most beginner cable wakeboards range between 120 cm for kids to 160 cm depending on the person's weight. With a shorter wakeboard length for lighter and shorter individuals and a longer wakeboard length for heavier and taller individuals. Once you have mastered control over the wakeboard and feel confident maneuvering the wakeboard and executing various tricks at the cable park, considering an upgrade to a longer board may be beneficial for further advancement.
4. What popular brands do you offer cable park wakeboards from?
We are very excited to offer a variety of cable park wakeboard products from the brand Ronix, including the affordable Ronix Diplomat, which comes in three sizes, including a longer cable wakeboard of 153 cm that has that greater surface area for riders to really play around with.
