Wakeboard Boots & Bindings FAQs
Do all wakeboarding bindings fit all wakeboards?
The short answer is, No. Wakeboard bindings come with two main types of hardware, but only one type is compatible with a given wakeboard. The traditional standard mounting system (which uses quarter-inch screws) and the newer M6 system, which uses metric-sized mounting hardware instead. Older boards (before 2013) will tend to have the former, while wakeboards purchased after 2013 will have the M6 hardware.
Ensure you know which style your board uses before purchasing replacement bindings. Alternatively, you can purchase a wakeboard package to guarantee your bindings fit with your board.
How should wakeboard bindings fit?
The key to finding the right fit for wakeboard bindings is that they should be snug but not overly tight or uncomfortable. It's a fine line that can take some experience to fully understand, and the type of wakeboard bindings you use is a key component to finding the right fit with both open-toe and closed-toe options.
Your heel shouldn't move at all, and for closed toe bindings, your toes should reach the end of the boot without curling or crowding. For open toe bindings, your toe placement/showing isn’t as big of a factor as long as your heel doesn’t move when you tighten up the bindings. Beyond these general principles, properly fitting wakeboard bindings can fall across a range of stiffness or flexibility, depending on the desired riding style of the owner.

What angle should wakeboard bindings be set at?
Generally, wakeboard bindings can be set between 0 and 24 degrees. Within this range, the exact angle will depend on a few factors. Beginners typically start with a 12-degree angle toward the front of the board, which provides an ideal combination of stability and maneuverability. This angle is a neutral stance that will also take pressure off your knees whether you are riding regular or switch. Separate the bindings shoulder width apart, the inside of your foot should line up with the outside of your shoulders. As skill increases, riders may want to slightly increase the angle or widen their stance, providing them extra control for doing tricks or other advanced moves. Eventually, many expert wakeboarders transition to angling both bindings outward, more similar to how you typically stand on land. This can provide the most control and versatility for experienced riders.
Can you wakeboard without bindings?
No, attempting to wakeboard without bindings isn't a good idea and should be avoided. Without bindings, it's difficult to control and steer the board and nearly impossible to do any tricks. This lack of control also raises the risk of hurting yourself or others while out on the water. While investing in bindings may feel like an extra cost, it's a critical requirement for developing wakeboard skills and making the most of your wakeboard.
